Unless you plan to live in an apartment building your entire life, there will come a time when you need a chainsaw. You may need to trim some trees, cut down brush or just cut some firewood, but you will need one eventually. Trying to figure out what chainsaw will best meet your needs can be a challenge; do you need a gas powered saw or an electric one? Which saw is the best value? The answers all depend on what you need a chainsaw for.

For Smaller Jobs

If you need a chainsaw for small jobs where portability, maneuverability and ease of use are the primary considerations, Black & Decker electric chainsaws are a good choice. For bigger jobs, you may need something heavier; but for now, let's look at the Black & Decker 18V cordless chainsaw to see what this saw can do and if it's the right saw for your needs. This is one of the company's leading electrically powered models.

Black & Decker is a trusted name in power tools and their electric chainsaws provide all of the quality and performance you'd expect from the brand. For small jobs like trimming trees, this is a great tool. It charges quickly and is lightweight and maneuverable – this is one saw you don't need to be built by a lumberjack to use! However, the lightweight nature of the saw also means that there is a limit to what you can do with this tool. If you need a saw for light work and only occasionally, though, this is a great low-cost saw.

The 18 Volt Black & Decker Electric Chainsaw

The 18 volt Black & Decker electric chainsaw is perfect for those jobs where a trimmer can't stand up to the work – it is ideal for cutting limbs which are 4"-5" in diameter and does wonders with smaller branches like these. If you need something which can handle heavy duty jobs, this may not be the right saw for you; a 12" stump is about the limit for what you can handle with a saw of this size and weight (and you'll most likely drain your battery in the process). If you need to cut anything heavier or need a saw to cut a large quantity of firewood, then you'll probably want to find something a little more powerful.

Go Cordless

The Black & Decker 18V cordless chainsaw is a great tool for people who need a light, reliable saw which won't break the bank or put off gas fumes. It's great for small household jobs and garden/yard use, but if you need to work with larger pieces of wood, it might not be the right choice for you. For most of us though, this is all the chainsaw we need and it performs admirably for what it's designed to do. You can find these saws at your local home improvement shop or from many retailers online.
