Started in the 1940's in Milwaukee, McCulloch's range of gas and electric powered chainsaws have long been known for their quality and the company has a well deserved reputation for producing some of the best chainsaws available. While the company got its start in Wisconsin, it was not until its relocation to California in 1948 that it begun to produce the chainsaws for which they are now famous.

The One-Man Chainsaw Evolves

The very first McCulloch chainsaw was the 5-49. While it took two people to operate, it should be remembered that at the time, it was the lightest and most powerful chainsaw of its kind. The 5-49 was soon followed by McCulloch's one man chainsaws, some of the first of their kind and a development which led to the company becoming famous quickly. No longer were chainsaws so heavy that they could be used practically nowhere save for commercial logging; and the one man McCulloch chainsaw allowed a whole new world of uses for the tool.

Development of Light Weight Chainsaws

McCulloch introduced the lightest chainsaw ever made in 1968, the Power Mac 6. At eight and a half pounds when fully fueled, it was by far the lightest chainsaw available, yet still suitable for professional, heavy duty use. In 1972 the company began producing the Mini Mac 1, a light and lower cost chainsaw for home users and these tools finally started to become within the reach of homeowners and other non-professional users.

Advent of the Electric Chainsaw

1972 also saw McCulloch's first electric chainsaws and a line of hedge trimmers, blowers and string trimmers; more of these types of tools were introduced to the company's product line through the 1980s. In 1988, McCulloch moved once again, to Tuscon, AZ. While a Taiwanese company purchased the North American manufacturing facilities in the late 90s, McCulloch chainsaws have continued to be made to the same high standards.

McCulloch gasoline powered chainsaws are made with ease of use, durability and reliable performance in mind, as well as safety and maneuverability. The MS 1432 and other small McCulloch chainsaws are ideal for trimming small to medium sized trees; with a 14" bar and a 32cc engine along with an automatic oiler, this is a reliable saw for light to medium work. A chain brake is built into the saw to ensure safe operation.

Real Chainsaw Power

If you have larger jobs to tackle, you may want to look at the 16" 35 cc McCulloch saws. These powerful saws include an antivibration system to ensure comfort and make them easier to use. The MS 1838AV is an 18" saw with a 38cc engine (as well as an anti-vibration system and chain brake for safety). This model is perfect for those who need to use their saw frequently for medium to heavy work which a smaller saw can't handle. Naturally, this only scratches the surface of McCulloch's chainsaw products. There are many others available and there is a McCulloch chainsaw which is perfectly suited to just about every task.
